WRECK-IT-RALPH
Theme: The story takes place within an arcade and all of it's old style video games. This theme is consistent throughout the entire film. Each video game within the game has a different theme of it's own and it's own graphic style for example in the game sugar rush the characters are all big eyed and very cute style and the game's world is all made up of candies, sweets, and other treats. The main message is about the character Ralph who in his game is the villain but wants people to like him and to be viewed as good. He doesn't like being on his own and not having friends. He believes that if he travels through different games and wins a medal he can prove to the characters in his game that he is good. He runs into problems because he was created to destroy things and he just can't help but leave a path of damage behind him. He needs to realize that his role in his game is very important and it would be wrong to not accept being the villain because that is who he is created to be, that doesn't necessarily mean that he can't have friends that see he is good for doing what he needs though. The movie shows the importance of friendship because that is what Ralph really wants.
Plot: Inside of the arcade game Fix it Felix there is a garbage dump and hotel, Ralph is forced to live in the garbage dump because he is seen as a bad guy for smashing things for Felix to fix despite that being what he was created to do and he is doing a crucial job. He seeks hero status so he can prove to everyone that he really is a good guy. After capturing an award in another game to bring back to his game he gets caught up in another game and becomes the best friend of a little girl who is being isolated within her game because she is thought to be a glitch. Though the story Ralph learns the meaning of friendship and that his role is important and just because he plays the role of the villain doesn't mean that he is a "bad guy".
Characters: Ralph: the villain of the video game Fix-It-Felix, very pixel looking in his game, nine feet tall 643 lbs short tempered, big handed, and designed to destroy. Felix Jr: the hero is his game Fix-It-Felix, admired by all of the towns people in his game, short, pixel looking in his game, kind, respected as a hero in a successful game. Nicelanders: these are the towns people in Ralph's game, they are very short and they are very unkind towards Ralph because he destroys the hotel they all live in everyday forcing Felix Jr to repair the damages he leaves behind. Sugar rush racers: The racers race using coins and compete to be the game's display picture for the next morning, they all isolate Vanellope von Schweetz because she is thought to be a glitch and they don't want her to compete in the races. Vanellope von Schweetz: A determined little girl, she longs to compete in the races with the other racers and she can feel inside her that she is a racer, she is spunky and has lots of sass and has a sharp tongue. Sergeant Calhoun: The lead character in the game Hero's Duty, she is harsh, very unemotional this is because during her wedding a Cy-Bug crashed into the church and killed her groom, she learns to accept love again, move on, and be kind with people again. She is a more realistic type character in her game. King Candy: Races in the sugar rush races, very competitive, power hungry, crazy, and nasty especially towards Vanellope von Schweetz. Sour Bill: the loyal minion of King Candy, made of a sour green candy ball and unattached jellybean arms/feet. Cy-Bugs: robotic bug creatures, villain in Hero's Duty game, fail in programming causes them to not be like other villains because they can not tell the difference between real life or the game and unlike the other game's villains they do not attend the Bad-anon meetings.
Sound: In the film sound is used to portray different themes such as for each theme of the different arcade games, for example games have similar music to Pacman and mario music.
Special Effects: The film is animation, I feel that the film was created very well displaying different variety of styles for the different themed games, for example Hero's Duty is very gloomy and realistic looking, Fix-it-Felix is very pixel looking with bright colours and images formed of squares, sugar rush is very cute looking with characters that have big heads big eyes and smaller bodies.
Technical Elements: In the film the lighting differs from game to game, In sugar rush the world is bright with lots of light which contrasts to Hero's Duty which is gloomily dark without very much light.
